Practicing Person-centered Internal Medicine committed to quality of care, patient safety and achieving an optimal experience satisfactory for the patient and family are reviewed. Person centered internal medicine is based on effective communication, active empathy and shared decision-making, as well as informed by evidence, experiencer and values. The manuscript also reviews factors pertinent to the implementation of the person-centered approach in internal medicine, and offers a proposal for the strengthening of the practice, education and research of clinical care and public health centered on persons.
