Abstract
Cost analysis is always an essential component in forest and biomass supply chain management and optimization. Both machine rate and cash flow methods can be used to calculate hourly cost of a harvesting machine. However, the cash flow approach requires more data up front and depends on assumptions wherever the data cannot be obtained. While the direct logging costs of harvesting operations are important, lack of attention to the indirect logging cost factors can result in an operational loss.
