Abstract

The Conclusion chapter recaps the main points of the book and brings together the common threads emerged among the chapters, highlighting the contributions to visitor-centered literature. The thought of the practices presented the visitor experience as intrinsically interdisciplinary, calling for an epistemological investigation that untangled this ball of yarn and identified the thread of each discipline. This epistemological journey stopped at each discrete step of the visit to shed light on the conversations that are happening in different academic corners of the museum field, revealing how the new museology shift to a visitor-centered perspective has impacted all the disciplines examined. In particular, this chapter highlights three themes that arose throughout the volume: the development of an international debate; the rising strategies that museums are creating to address structural inequalities; and the importance of thinking about museums as situated.
