Abstract
This chapter reflects on the usefulness of World 101, a multi-module online material by the Council on Foreign Relations, for both teacher training and teaching ESL. The context for the project is a university-level, cross-listed undergraduate and graduate-level online course on methods of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). The analysis of the lessons designed by the in-service and pre-service teachers shows that current, globally oriented modules were preferred: global health and climate change were the most frequently chosen topics. World 101 proved to be a very useful material for ESL lesson design by teachers in training, who utilized many of the varied options and global focus of the material. The chapter illustrates several layers of CALL, beginning with the online nature of the course and continuing with the successful use of publicly available online teaching materials for global learning.

Review the website and consider what lesson you can create from the information available on a topic of your own choosing. You will need to justify your choice of chapter and topic. Why do you think what you chose is the best fit for the population for which you are designing? Also include a short summary of why the lesson you prepared should meet your language and content goals. Be sure to follow the SIOP lesson plan model or another model provided in the course. Specifying the intended audience, SIOP features included, language and content objectives, materials, targeted skill, topic, materials, and procedural breakdown.
