Abstract
The relationship between corporate green production and corporate social responsibility (CSR) has been concerned and discussed by scholars at home and abroad, but few studies consider the impact of peer social responsibility levels on corporate green production. Based on signal theory and expectancy theory, we studied the impact of peer CSR stars’ governance and output levels on the green production of private companies. An empirical analysis is conducted based on the listed stars of 16 industries and 3,416 private peer companies. The results show that the governance level of peer CSR stars negatively affects the green production of private companies, but the degree of negative influence decreases with the improvement of the social status of the founders of private companies. The output level of peer CSR stars positively affects the green production of private companies, and its positive influence increases with the improvement of the social status of the founders of private companies. Thus, we deepen existing research on the antecedents of corporate green production and the research on the effects of peer CSR.
