Abstract

Pregnancy can be complicated with acute or chronic kidney disease (CKD). It can affect pregnancy outcome. Acute kidney injury (AKI) can occur with numerous conditions. The most frequent one is AKI in preeclampsia/eclampsia with or without HELLP (hemolysis, elevated liver enzymes, low platelets) syndrome. The course of pregnancy with CKD depends on CKD stage, underlying disease or other factors. It is associated with pregnancy complications such as preterm delivery, intrauterine growth restriction, preeclampsia, and anemia. Conception is rare in advanced CKD. Pregnancy after kidney transplantation can be planned and requires preconception immunosuppressant correction. Severe preeclampsia, disseminated intravascular coagulation or severe renal failure warrant urgent delivery.
