Abstract
This chapter shows how in facilitated interactions personal trajectories can show cultural constructions of identity so that facilitation may be seen as intercultural and facilitation can promote hybrid negotiations of narratives of these trajectories. Moreover, it shows that when language is not shared, activities of management of understanding and language mediation are necessary. This chapter deals with intercultural forms of facilitation in multicultural classrooms and with language mediation in international settings where English is used as lingua franca but not all children are able to understand and speak English well. The analysis of the ways in which facilitation of agency can deal with cultural issue and through language mediation allows the understanding of the impact of cultural and language differences on both facilitative activities and children’s agency. The analysis is based on excerpts from research projects.
