Abstract
Above, we considered the so-called simple types of beam deformation (axial tension or compression, shear, torsion, flat bending), in which only one internal force occurs in the cross-sections (in the case of transverse bending, two). In practice, most elements of structures and machines are subjected to the action of forces that simultaneously cause not one of these deformations, but two or more. Various combinations of simple deformations are called complex resistance. In this chapter, only those types of complex resistance that are most commonly found in engineering are considered.

- 1.
Under the compressive load P, the superposition principle is applicable under the condition of small curvatures of the column caused by its deformation.
