Abstract
The aim of this research is a contribution to the recent research of the green architecture, and green urbanism also, studies of the French architect and urban planner Henri Prost in the context of the zones “zoning” applications in his Master plans as well as the housing areas, and green areas planned by him. Thus, a new research paradigm was created using H. Prost’s Paris, and İstanbul Master Plans included with housing areas, green areas, parks, axis, etc. according to the zones “zoning” application. An urban planning proposition was submitted to the region’s determinations in the city which were specified by zones “zoning” regulations such as: housing areas, green areas, parks, etc. imposed itself firmly on the place regardless of the ideological power of the regulatory elements. This planning method was considered within the 19th Century a French “think-thank” Institution Le Musée-Sociale (Social-Museum’s) “regulatory”, and “compulsory” planning tool. Although, H. Prost, and his colleagues who were affiliated to the 19th-century French urbanism city planning l’école (school) later they pragmatically developed “realistic”, and “problem solving” methods out of the theoretical context. In the pragmatic context these different, and not well known urbanism theories were also implemented within the secondary tools, so, this new urbanism described, and practiced under the title of the “realistic urbanism”. This study included an examination involved to the cities of Paris, and İstanbul both planned by H. Prost, according to he and his colleagues's zones “zoning” applications. Though that it was essentially the same, but the term of “zoning” was technically produced to describe the main tool of the “regulatory”, and “executary” urban planners (H. Prost and his colleagues), thus their method was different from the CIAM’s, well known “zoning” practices. In this context, this research revealed that the planning method which was developed by H. Prost and his colleagues using zoning will guide the future planning of the cities and the architects, and for planners, new plannings.
