Abstract

Green Building is a sustainable initiative that can enhance the quality of life while minimizing the impact on nature through its design, construction, and operation schemes. Although the basic concepts for the green building have been around for decades, it has been a few years since it got popular and influenced the dynamics of architectural practice. While the practice rate is still low, the interest in Green Building is rising in Bangladesh which is influenced by the outstanding performance in the RMG sector. The hotel industry has the potential to grow substantially as the tourism industry is growing in Bangladesh, comprising 4.4% of the total GDP in 2018. The introduction of Green strategies in hotel design will further contribute to the growth of Sustainable Bangladesh. This study aims to explore the scope of architectural interventions in various green building initiatives around the world and identify the efficiency of those approaches in Hotel Design in the context of Bangladesh. Following a qualitative research approach, this study reviewed and analyzed the contemporary green building principles and identified the potential architectural intervention scopes among them. Higher compatibility and future application in different phases of hotel buildings are also targeted through a set of design guidelines while considering the context of Bangladesh. The scholarly sources used in this research are generally limited to international literature, primarily due to insufficient local resources. Nevertheless, several local Green Buildings were studied through secondary data as a local parameter to assess the strategic feasibility and compatibility.
