Black Men’s Health

Abstract

Navigating the healthcare system for black males can be difficult and often challenging given the lack of specificity and attention paid to the cultural nuances associated with health services for this population. This chapter underscores the inequity that exists within health care for black males by focusing on the service delivery system. Using a model of integrated healthcare delivery facilitated by community-based nonprofit organizations as an intermediary, black physicians, social workers, and supporting human service workers are finding ways to address the inequity that exists in the delivery of service. These integrated healthcare models are addressing the inequity gap by providing culturally relevant and responsive systems of care for black men (and their families).
