Abstract
Time-step** methods in combination with some spatial discretization method like the finite element method (FEM) are still the standard approach to the numerical solution of IBVPs like (1); see, e.g., [16]. This time-step** approach as well as the more recent discontinuous Galerkin, or discontinuous Petrov–Galerkin methods based on time slices or slabs are in principle sequential.
