Side Effects of Cancer Therapy

Abstract

This book chapter presents a concise analysis of the short-term and long-term complications associated with gastrectomy. Short-term complications encompass surgical site infections, anastomotic leakage, bleeding, and ileus. Nutritional deficiencies, particularly vitamin B12 and iron, arise quickly due to changes in gastric anatomy and function. In the long term, patients experience issues like dum** syndrome, malnutrition, and weight loss mainly due to malabsorption. Chronic reflux is another frequent complication that can affect the patient quality of life. Comprehensive postoperative care, including nutritional support, regular surveillance, and lifestyle adjustments, is essential to address these complications effectively. Understanding both short-term and long-term consequences is crucial for informed decision-making and improved patient outcomes. Identifying the population at risk for these complications is imperative for implementing targeted preventive measures and providing tailored postoperative care.
