Abstract

Diagnostic imaging is a cornerstone of cancer diagnosis, staging, assessment of treatment response, and long-term surveillance. The most appropriate choice of imaging modality for primary tumor staging and detection of the metastatic disease depends on the tumor type and common sites of distant disease. This chapter reviews several of the most encountered cancers in the United States, discusses typical patterns of metastatic disease, and suggests appropriate imaging examinations to evaluate primary and metastatic disease.
