The teacher-lover – In early typologies of female sexual offenders, the predominant type was considered the teacher-lover. A female teacher who engaged in a sexual relationship with a student and believed she was “in love” was considered a teacher-lover.
The dark figure of crime – Unreported crimes that are not included in official crime statistics since they are unknown.
Violence Against Children: Teacher Perpetrators
In 2022, Freeform premiered a docuseries, Keep This Between Us (Berg, et al.), which chronicles the sexual grooming and abuse of high school students by male teachers. Other high-profile cases such as Mary Kay Letourneau and Pamela Smart shine a light on the presence of female perpetrators.
