Abstract
It is not only in Germany, the country which pioneered the energy transition, that the energy market and political will have changed considerably. The cards are being reshuffled in many other countries around the world. But it is not enough for us to give political decision-makers the task of stop** climate change alone. In addition to politics and business, other societal forces must also play an important role in sha** the energy transformation.

In other countries the difference is greater. In Switzerland, for example, only about 5 tonnes of CO2 per capita and per year are emitted domestically; this is due to the high proportion of hydropower in the electricity mix and the low share of energy-intensive industrial production. However, if imports are included, this figure stands at 13 tonnes.

According to the Energy Saving Ordinance, a primary energy factor of 1.8 is generally applied to electricity generation in Germany. Added to this are losses of approx. 10% when charging and uncharging the batteries.
- 5.
This high value is mainly due to the energy input for the production of hydrogen by electrolysis (efficiency of about 70%, partly already 80%), its complex storage at 700Â bar, and the relatively low efficiency of hydrogen combustion (less than 50%).
