Abstract
Broad-sense heritability and narrow-sense heritability are defined in the beginning of the chapter. Under the assumption of Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium, the total genetic variance is partitioned into additive variance, dominance variance, additive by additive variance, additive by dominance variance and dominance by dominance variance. The average effect of gene substitution is geometrically proved to be the regression coefficient of the genotypic effect defined in scale 1 on the number of A1 allele in the genotype, where A1 is the “high allele” and A2 is the “low” allele.
