Abstract
International powerful actors, however, have used the platform of regional instability to pursue economic growth through strong economic growth policies implemented towards boosting trade, curbing migration flows particularly into Europe and fighting terrorism and extremism. This chapter is thus primarily concerned with the UN’s role in West Africa and G5 Sahel countries: Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali, Mauritania and Niger. Thus assessed are peacekee** mandates enshrined in economic models with a view to build the economies of the Sahel region by inter alia curbing migration flows across Europe. While in Southern Africa, this chapter discusses peacekee** mandates within resource-rich oil countries such as Angola, with a view to assess how to address resilient communities in oil-rich conflict-ridden states.
