Abstract
Nickel is a micronutrient associated with N in enzymatic processes; however, its improper use may cause phytotoxicity. In this chapter, we will discuss initially (i) basic aspects of Ni in the soil; (ii) Ni uptake, transport, and redistribution; (iii) Ni metabolism (reduction and assimilation); (iv) nutritional requirements for Ni in crops; (v) Ni extraction, export, and accumulation by the main crops; (vi) Ni deficiency and toxicity symptoms.
