Designing Quantitative Evidence-Based Interventions for Clinical Neuropsychology Practice

Understanding the Biological Basis of Behavior

Abstract

Recommended interventions derived from neuropsychological assessments can be broadly divided into two categories: qualitative and quantitative. This chapter discusses approaches to, and uses of, quantitative intervention. The use of norm referenced standardized instruments in a neuropsychological assessment lend themselves to a quantitative approach. The Boston Process and Lurian approaches are discussed as influential models in modern neuropsychology. Quantitative interventions are discussed for neurodevelopmental disorders as well as acquired neurological insults including autism spectrum disorder, traumatic brain injury, and stroke. Cognitive rehabilitation is reviewed along with academic quantitative interventions for dyslexia, dyscalculia, and dysgraphia. Finally, quantitative interventions for neuropsychological domains were discussed.
