Abstract

We establish extended thermodynamics of rarefied polyatomic gases with six independent fields via the maximum entropy principle. The distribution function is not necessarily near equilibrium. The result is in perfect agreement with the phenomenological RET theory explained in Chap. 12. This is the first example of molecular ET with a nonlinear closure. The integrability condition of the moments requires that the dynamic pressure should be bounded from below and above.
