Abstract
A small genus of 20 - 25 species distributed from Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and Papua New Guinea southwards to Australia and the southwestern Pacific, plants are erect, tufted or climbing, with alternate, curved, narrowly elliptic leaves, or leafless. Many species are climbing epiphytes or lithophytes, but some are terrestrial, and a few are saprophytic. Inflorescence is axillary with a dozen medium-sized flowers. Sepals and petals are free, lanceolate, covered with spots and splashes of contrasting colour. Lip is three-lobed, often hirsute (Fig. 47.1).
