Abstract
This chapter analyzes the current core—periphery divide in the EU. It offers a typology of core, semiperiphery, and periphery drawing on research groups around Giovanni Arrighi. Furthermore it is argued that the core—periphery in a global and European capitalist system dominated by transnational companies is very persistent (‘a ladder without upper rungs’).
