Abstract
The first stop was in the Mediterranean, in Croatia. The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) Mediterranean fisheries programme’s tuna specialists have no happy memories of their trip to Dubrovnik in November 2006. The seaside town in Croatia, sometimes called the ‘Pearl of the Adriatic’ because of its gorgeous location, was the setting of the annual meeting of the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT) that autumn. During the 1990s, over a period of just 10 years, Croatia had been one of the first countries in the Mediterranean to introduce tuna farms and so it made sense to hold the tuna meeting there.
