Abstract
The regional acceleratory phenomenon (RAP) is a tissue reaction to noxious stimuli that increases the healing capabilities of the affected tissues. The various stimuli that invoke RAP and their interactions with tooth movement will be discussed. A brief comparison has been made with osteotomy-assisted and corticotomy-assisted tooth movement. Studies that compare and contrast the two types of surgery-assisted tooth movements are discussed. Finally, the molecular response of SFOA is discussed with clinical implication and future prospects as far as regional acceleratory phenomenon is concerned.
