Abstract

Problematic techno-scientific development on the one hand and, at the same time, ethical and cultural pluralism on the other, gives rise to new issues concerning regulation and policies, on a national, regional and international level. Bioethics cannot avoid referring to biolaw and biopolitics. The chapter focuses on the different models of biolaw and biopolitics, referring to the main regulations as international and regional normative framework, and on the role of Committees for bioethics at international, regional and national level. The new regulatory approach for emerging technologies is outlined.

Notes

  1. 1.

Ethics and law interact in various ways: they may significantly overlap with one another, but they remain two different normative systems. Ethics reflects on what is good or bad, and aims at promoting the fulfilment of our tendencies towards the good, law ensures human relationships and guarantees the common interests of society of peaceful coexistence.
