Granular Nanoelectronics

Part of the book series: NATO ASI Series ((NSSB,volume 251))

Abstract

Granular nanoelectronics is a term I have coined to describe that limit of electronics where we are interested physically in the transport of individual electrons and where from an information-theoretic viewpoint we are interested in approaching the limit of one bit on one carrier. The purpose of this paper is to give some orientation for the School; it raises themes; many of the topics are discussed in depth in accompanying lectures.
