Oesophageal atresia with distal tracheo-oesophageal fistula

  • Chapter
Oesophageal Atresia

Abstract

In the most common variant of oesophageal atresia, the proximal oesophagus ends as a blind upper pouch and there is a distal tracheo-oesophageal fistula (Figure 9.1). The distal oesophagus joins the posterior aspect of the trachea, usually in the lower half of its intrathoracic part.
