Abstract

In several countries diet programs have been carried out with the goal to decrease the serum cholesterol concentration and in the long perspective decrease morbidity and mortality of ischemic heart disease of the present population1.The most important expression of these diet programs have been a low intake of saturated fat and an increased P/S ratio of the diet fat. In several diet treatment studies of patients with hypercholesterolemia the authors have demonstrated that lipid-lowering diets (with high P/S ratios) do reduce the low density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol concentrations of the patients but also lower the concentration of the high density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol concentrations2.This phenomenon has been studied out of several aspects3.In the present paper the serum lipoproteins were measured in healthy controls who estimated their mean intake of different nutrients during a week.
