Abstract
Cladosporium fulvum Cke (syn. Fulvia fulva) is a fungal pathogen of the tomato, Lycopersicon esculentum. causing the disease leaf mould. A variety of natural features of the interaction together with techniques and knowledge built up over past few years have established these organisms as a near-ideal systems for the study of pathogenicity, host specificity and race cultivar specificity. In this review I will emphasise two aspects of the genetics of the pathogen which have received attention in the recent past. The first is genetic analysis by parasexual analysis and protoplast fusion coupled with pulsed field gel separation of chromosomes. The second is the discovery and analysis of long-terminal repeat retrotransposons.
