Abstract

Liquid Metal Fast Breeder Reactors (LMFBR’s) are being developed in the United States, Russia, Great Britain, France, Germany and Japan. The use of LMFBR’s extends the amount of energy that can be extracted from uranium by a factor of 60 to 70 as compared with light water reactors, thus converting a scarce energy source into a plentiful one; hence, the interest of the major nations of the world in LMFBR’s.
