Abstract

In contrast to all other immunoglobulin classes which occur predominantly in serum, IgA occurs as the most preponderant class in exocrine secretions(1). This makes the evolutionary study of IgA of particular interest since IgA may encounter some pressure from natural selection not encountered by other immunoglobulins.
