Abstract
I must confess that although I was well aware that I was responsible for a technical presentation at this meeting, it had somehow escaped my attention until a few days ago that I was also scheduled for 45 minutes of introductory remarks as well. One felicitous result of this will be that the coffee break will come earlier than scheduled. For one panicky moment I thought of extracting from the sermon barrel some one of the several similar “Introductions” for which I have been responsible in recent years, ho** that with the information overload from which we all suffer no one would notice this was a replay. However, looking at the roster of distinguished and knowledgeable participants, it was clear I couldn’t get away with that, even with a bit of judicious hybridization of previous manuscripts. Besides, for the hybridization I couldn’t decide whether to use alternate lines or alternate paragraphs.
