Abstract
DRw6 (DRw13,DRw14) haplotypes were previously considered to be the most enigmatic group of HLA class II specificities. This was largely due to the lack of monospecific anti-DRw6 alloantisera. Through the combined efforts of serology, cellular ty**, and biochemistry, it has been possible over the past few years to recognize individual molecular variants of DRβ and DQβ chains and their associations, thus defining several DRw6 haplotypes (1,2). A common feature of all the DRw6 (DRw13,DRw14) haplotypes is the presence of at least one DRβ product belonging to the DRw52 supertypic specificities, thus ranking the DRw6 haplo types among the DRw52 associated haplotypes with DR3 and 5.
