Abstract
The year 1958 saw the introduction of the first NC machine into Rolls-Royce. This was a three axis machine to which a control system had been retrofitted. Its main use was in the manufacture of former plates and three-dimensional model blocks from which die blocks for engine blades were copied. This combination demonstrated to the company the potential value of NC.
