This paper presents the background of the China Center for Service Sector Research (CCSSR). The prior and current research topics and activities of the CCSSR at both the national and provincial level are described, as well as its educational activities. Since its establishment in 2001, the CCSSR at Sun Yat-sen University has made many contributions to research and education in the service economy within China. Research efforts and publications have been recognized at the national and international level.
