Abstract
Peter Stansky is the Frances and Charles Field Professor of History, Emeritus at Stanford University. He was born in New York City in 1932 and educated at Yale College, King’s College, Cambridge, and Harvard University. He first taught at Harvard and then came to Stanford in 1968. He is now officially retired, but will be teaching half time for several more years. He has held various fellowships, including visiting ones to All Souls College and St Catherine’s College in Oxford. He is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the Royal Historical Society. He has been on the Boards of academic journals and was President of the North American Conference on British Studies. He has edited several series, written numerous articles and reviews, and given lectures in the United States, Britain, Germany and Australia. He is particularly proud of all of his PhD students, quite a few of whom have made important contributions to the field of modern British history.
