Corrosion Destruction of Steel Equipment and Pipelines at Gas Field Facilities in the Presence of Aggressive Components

  • Published:
Steel in Translation Aims and scope

Abstract

The influence of the main corrosion-aggressive operational factors (the presence of CO2, H2S, condensation of a liquid, etc.) on the risk of destruction of the steel infrastructure of gas fields has been studied. A feature of gas objects is that most of the inner surface of the metal is in contact with the gas phase. Under such conditions, the processes of corrosion destruction are associated with hydrogen sulfide hydrogenation and cracking of steels and with local corrosion (pits, dimples, crevice corrosion) that occurs at condensation of a liquid saturated with aggressive CO2, H2S and CH3COOH.
