Abstract

Allyl chloromethyl and allyl 1-chloroethyl ethers reacted with carbonyl compounds in the presence of fine zinc shavings and a catalytic amount of HgCl2 in a mixture of benzene, ethyl acetate, and HMPA (10:5:1) under nitrogen to give the corresponding α-glycol monoallyl ethers in up to 68.1% yield.
