Abstract—The mechanism of modulational interaction of Langmuir waves in meteoroid trails, which leaves to generation of magnetic fields, is discussed. Estimates of these fields are given. It is shown that the value of the fields agrees with the observed variations of magnetic fields in Earth’s atmosphere during the passage of meteoroids. The mechanism of appearance of low-frequency electromagnetic waves as a result of the modulational interaction of Langmuir waves, which can result in electrophonic noises during the passage of meteoroids, is described.
