Redistribution of Asphaltenes in Modeling of a Nonequilibrium Reservoir State

Abstract

The paper describes a process of crude oil differentiation in an oil reservoir induced by an inflow of light hydrocarbons. It was shown that when an oil-rich carbonate rock is destabilized the redistribution of oil components occurs due to the adsorption and/or precipitation of asphaltenes on the rock and their gravitational separation. More compact asphaltene aggregates concentrate in the bottom of the oil reservoirs model.
