Abstract

The solubility of cefixime disodium in seven pure solvents including ethanol, propan-2-ol, butan-1-ol, isoamyl alcohol, acetone, acetonitrile, and ethyl acetate was measured using a gravimetric method. The van’t Hoff equation, modified Apelblat equation and λh models were applied to correlate the experimental data. The modified Apelblat equation was found to give the best fit. Based on the van’t Hoff equation, the Gibbs energy of cefixime disodium was calculated, and the corrected data show that the dissolution process of cefixime disodium in all solvents is endothermic, non-spontaneous and enthalpy-driven.
