Abstract

In this paper, we obtain coatings on substrates of polycrystalline aluminum oxide, single-crystal silicon, glass, and stainless steel at temperature not exceeding 100°C by ion-plasma sputtering of ultrafine particles of hafnium and cadmium. The structure study of the obtained coatings shows the existence of solid solutions in the concentration range of 5.8–64.1 at % Cd. In the concentration range of 0–50 at % Cd, the coating is represented by a phase of a solid solution of cadmium in α-Hf, while at a Cd concentration of more than 64 at %, cadmium begins to precipitate into a separate phase. The effect of the substrate material on the border of the field of existence of a solid solution of cadmium in hafnium is noted and an assumption about the effect of epitaxy on the border of the field of the existence of solid solutions of cadmium in hafnium is stated.
