Abstract

Curculio davidi is a destructive weevil that threatens chestnut cultivation. Its rapid identification and genetic source determination, such as using mitochondrial sequences, may contribute to develo** the effective control and the prevention of this species. In this study, the complete mitochondrial genome of C. davidi was assembled from high-coverage Illumina sequencing reads. The circular genome was 16,852 bp long and encoded 37 typical mitochondrial genes. The nucleotide composition was asymmetric with an obvious bias towards A and T (77.2% combined). All protein-coding genes (PCGs) were initiated with typical ATN start codons except for ND1, which was initiated with TTG. These PCGs were terminated by the typical TAA/TAG codons or the incomplete T(aa) codon. The control region was determined by its remarkably high A+T content of 83.6%, and it was located between 12S rRNA and tRNA-Ile.
