We are pleased to have a new cover graphic after several decades. The graphic is a model of the post-translational Sec61 translocase pathway with the BiP ATPase promoting translocation from the paper by the Dalbey group in our special issue: Protein Targeting and Transport: A Tribute to Günter Blobel last year. We intend to change the cover graphic annually or biannually.

We are launching three special issues in the journal; the first one, which starts with this issue, is in memory of Harold Scheraga: the pundit of protein folding, who passed away last summer. It is organized by guest editor Professor Mahesh Narayan, University of Texas at El Paso, who was a postdoctorate in his lab. This is the first installment of that special issue; the second installment will be published in the December issue.

In the December issue we will present a second special issue topic entitled Proteins of SARS CoV-2, the Cause of COVID-19, and the Proteins that Interact with Them, guest edited by Francis Yoshimoto, University of Texas, San Antonio. This follows the first article on this topic authored by Dr. Yoshimoto in the June, 2020 issue.

The third special issue is from an international virtual meeting held in Istanbul at the end of 2020 entitled Enzyme and Bioprocess, EBDays 2020, guest edited by Barış Binay, Gebze Technical University, Turkey. It will premiere in our February 2021 issue.

The readers are encouraged to look at our revised, condensed aims and scope as well as instructions to authors. In particular, prospective authors of review articles are advised to query the editorial board prior to submission to assess whether it fits within the scope of the Journal. We expect review articles to be at high standards. For authors submitting computational articles, we require experimental verification unless the methodology is new and novel; otherwise it will not be recommended for review.

The journal is successful because of the input of its excellent editorial board and expert reviewers who maintain the quality of the articles that we publish. We look forward to 2021 as a new year perhaps fraught with less chaos than the current year. We wish everyone to stay safe and healthy and look forward to your continued readership.

Sincerely yours,

Lawrence J. Berliner
