Abstract

The present work explores the influence of Mn2+ impurity on phase-pure α-Zn2SiO4 phosphors synthesized using the conventional hydrothermal method. The photoluminescence studies revealed a green emission at 525 nm in the Zn2SiO4: Mn phosphor. The optimal 4% Mn-doped Zn2SiO4 material provided 52% quantum yield with an average lifetime of 27 ns, indicating efficient emission. Also, thermoluminescence (TL) characterization for X-ray-irradiated samples was carried out and exhibited three distinct TL glow peaks at temperatures of approximately 125, 204, and 345 °C. Among them, the Zn2SiO4:4% Mn phosphor exhibited the highest TL intensity, suggesting the presence of deeper traps within the bandgap. The findings provide detailed luminescence properties of Mn-doped Zn2SiO4 phosphors, highlighting their potential applications as lighting and dosimetry phosphors.
