Abstract

In October 2017, yellow and wilted leaves and partially rotted roots were observed in ginseng plants in Jilin Province, China. The fungal isolates obtained from the rotting tissues of ginseng roots were identified as Fusarium subglutinans according to the morphological characteristics and molecular analysis of β-tubulin, translation elongation factor, and calmodulin genes. Pathogenicity analysis revealed that the inoculation of ginseng with these isolates resulted in identical symptoms, and the same fungi were re-isolated, confirming their pathogenic nature. This report is the first to establish that F. subglutinans causes root rot in ginseng.
