Stellungnahme zu Aus- und Fortbildung des Rettungsfachpersonals im Atemwegsmanagement und der Gesichtsmaskenbeatmung

Gemeinsame Stellungnahme der Verantwortlichen der Arbeitsgruppen 6 (Fortbildung) und 4 (Patientenversorgung) des Rettungsdienstausschusses Bayern (RDA) sowie der Bildungskommission für das Rettungsfachpersonal des RDA zur S1-Leitlinie „Prähospitales Atemwegsmanagement“.

Abstract

The novel S1 guideline “out-of-hospital airway management” defines certain minimum requirements for the training of endotracheal intubation, supraglottic airway devices, and bag-mask-ventilation prior to using the techniques in real-life emergency scenarios. In this statement, the committees responsible for the education and training of non-physician emergency medical services (EMS) staff in Bavaria, Germany, comment on the implications of the said guideline, focusing mainly on the organizational challenges of meeting these requirements. While improving the airway/ventilation competence of EMS personnel is seen as a benefit for patient safety, the requirements mentioned can be met only in the long-run. In the meantime, EMS personnel are advised to continue using the approach to securing the airway and ventilating the patient that promises the greatest chance of success under the given circumstances. Due to the lack of available evidence on the requirements for bag-mask ventilation, this very aspect of the guideline is questioned.
