Abstract
Case Report:
Rhinocerebral mucormycosis is a rare invasive fungal infection, with potentially fulminate course. A case of rhinocerebral mucormycosis, which was evaluated by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is presented, exhibiting inflammatory changes in the paranasal sinuses and orbit. Extension of the infection intracranially in the suprasellar region and infiltration of the naso- and oropharynx were remarkable and well demonstrated on MR images. MRI proved to be the elective method for the early diagnosis and follow-up of the disease, which in our patient was accompanied by clinical improvement.

Rhinozerebrale Mukormykose ist eine seltene invasive mykotische Infektion mit möglichem fulminanten Verlauf. Die Autoren stellen einen Fall von rhinozerebraler Mukormykose mit entzündlichen Veränderungen in den Nasennebenhöhlen und der Orbita vor, die mit Hilfe einer Magnetresonanztomographie (MRT) diagnostiziert wurden. Eine intrakranielle Ausdehnung nach suprasellär sowie eine Infiltration des Naso- und Oropharynx ließen sich in den MR-Aufnahmen deutlich abbilden. MRT war die Methode der Wahl für die Frühdiagnose und Verlaufskontrolle der Krankheit, die bei unserem Patienten gebessert werden konnte.
