Summary
The method described here permits a quite accurate determination of microgram as well as milligram amounts of titanium in minerals either without previous separation or after an ion exchange operation. The basis of the photometric determination is the very intensely yellow and stable titanium ascorbate complex, while the ion exchange is based on the fact that this complex has a negative charge, which provides the possibility of gathering it, in contrast to other elements such as iron, chromium, nickel, on a highly basic anion exchanger Amberlite I. R. A.-400 (ascorbate form) and thus of separating the titanium from several foreign ions, which interfere with the direct photometric determination.
A series of mineral analyses demonstrated that the results are just as good as those yielded by the ordinary procedures.
